Late at night, the city of Atlantis had fallen into a peaceful slumber. The savior of the day, Major John Sheppard, couldn´t find any sleep at all. Though his bed was wide and comfortable and his body way beyond exhaustion, his mind didn´t give him the pleasure of resting. It nagged and nagged because something was not right. In fact something was perfectly wrong. Sighing, he rolled onto his back, staring at the ceiling. You know why you are so restless, don´t you? It´s not today´s trouble or the matter of who´s in command. It´s that she´s pissed because of you. Worse, she doesn´t believe you trust her. Quietly, he swore to himself and the unconcerned darkness. This shouldn´t be bothering him at all. Many times, he had broken rules or disobeyed orders from superiors. Many times, he had gotten himself into trouble by acting on his own. So why was he having trouble sleeping because of what had happened today? Well, for the simple reason that it´s not some military officer I have to handle this time. It´s her, Dr. Elizabeth Weir. It´s because of her that I can´t sleep. The hurt in her eyes was more than I can bear. She made me feel like a traitor. No one before had the power to make me feel that way. Damn!
He got up and put his feet on the ground. He surely didn´t like to feel that way. Since the beginning of this mission he had wanted to have her. Constantly, he was fantasizing about ripping off her clothes and taking her right in her office or the jumper or anywhere. Well, that wasn´t surprising. She was an attractive woman, as well as smart, strong and independent. There was nothing wrong with being attracted to her. But he also wanted to earn her respect. Why? Frankly, because he loved to see her smiling proudly at him. He loved being praised by her far more than he felt he should have. That was the problem and that´s why he couldn´t sleep. The woman whose trust and admiration he wanted to have more than anyone else´s in this city had seen him doing wrong. Oh yes, he had been wrong today. Sure, he had saved the day at last but....
Sighing again, he left the bed to get himself a drink. He needed one to put himself to sleep. Quickly, he pulled a crumpled, black shirt on and stepped barefoot and in shorts into the deserted hallway. No need to get dressed properly, it was long after midnight, and the closest room akin to a kitchen, storing the harder stuff, was just around the corner. Light-footed, he entered the dimly-lit space and stopped in his tracks. He wasn´t the only one not sleeping tonight.

Like a ghost in gloomy light, Elizabeth Weir leaned against the kitchen counter and drank from a cup.

Shit! Instantly, John whirled around to leave.

"Major!" Sharply, she called him back.

Perhaps he just imagined she spoke more strictly than usual, but to his ears she sounded unfamiliarly harsh. "I don´t want to disturb you," he mumbled, pulling a straight face.

"You aren´t. Come over here and join me."

Well, he thought. That´s that. Again, a simple plan of mine has turned a different direction. "OK," he obeyed, while he tried to act as natural as possible. Not easy when you meet your boss wearing flaming red, but pretty worn-out, pajamas. John swallowed and bit back a grin.

At the same time, Dr. Weir observed his bare feet. "Out in a rush, aren´t you? Quite the man with the plan."

Point taken, he granted, slightly amused. "I just came here for a drink, I couldn´t have known I would run into you."

"No, you couldn´t have known."

Their eyes locked and for a few seconds they just stared at each other. John noticed her crumpled hair, which made her look younger and softer. Just kissable. Pull yourself together....

Elizabeth dropped her gaze and sipped from her cup. "Didn´t you come here for a drink?"

She wasn´t smiling and John knew she hadn´t forgotten what had happened today. He sighed unhappily. Come on. You can do this. "I´m truly sorry."

She looked up. "What for?"

Oh, come on. Don´t make this harder for me. "For what I did today. I shouldn´t have disobeyed a direct order from you. I was completely wrong."

The tension in her body eased only slightly. "Apology accepted. Let´s just forget about it."

"No, I have to tell you this. I do trust you. You are one of the few people I trust with my life."

The green of her eyes became brighter. "That´s good to hear, John."

Pleased, he lightened up. I´m John again. That´s how I like it. Savoring the pleasures of the moment, he checked her out thoroughly. Red is definitely your color.

She offered him her mug. "You want something?"

Yeah. You. "What are you having?" It would be easy to rip that red thing off her. It´s pretty worn-out.

"Rum."

John was surprised because he had expected her to say tea. "Sure," he agreed to her peace offering cheerfully. Nice to know you´re not always so well behaved. The booze made him feel warm and lazy and he yawned.

Elizabeth smiled. "Time to go to bed, soldier."

You don´t say. "I perfectly agree." He took one last gulp. "In the morning, I have to tell Teyla she was absolutely right."

She frowned. "What?"

"Teyla told me at once that I was wrong to disobey your order in front of Bates."

"So that´s what this is all about. Nice to know. Good Night, Major." Quickly, she passed by him to leave, but he was faster. Years of military training had improved his reflexes a lot. He grabbed her arm with his right hand, while he held the mug with the left. "Hey! What´s wrong? I thought we were good again."

"We are, Major Sheppard," she replied coldly. "Let go of my arm."

He didn´t. "Everything was fine until I mentioned Teyla. Why?"

"It´s not about Teyla. I just realized your apology wasn´t your decision."

"Bullshit!" he swore testily. "I apologized because I couldn´t sleep thinking you were still mad at me. I thought that was why you couldn´t sleep either."

Angrily, she tore her arm free and ripped her sleeve open. "Major Sheppard, if I couldn´t sleep it was surely not because of you. Never because of you." She jerked around and rushed into the hallway.

Seeing her so angry confused him pretty much. Women! What have I done now? He smashed the mug into the sink and hurried after her. He reached her just in time to slip through the closing doors into her quarters.

"Please leave," she said, fighting for her breath. "These are my quarters and I have never allowed you..."

"Exactly," he interrupted her softly. "You have never invited me, although you have been to my quarters."

"Just once."

"True." Curious, he looked around. "It´s nice. It´s very you." Wow! Even the blanket is red.

"Major, it´s very late, you are in your underwear..."

"What´s your concern? That people could talk or that you could learn to like having me here in my underwear?"

"That´s ridiculous, John."

"That´s better than Major." He grinned happily. "I won´t leave before we make up."

"I already told you your apology was accepted."

"Yeah, but I think we have to discuss a very different matter, Elizabeth."

"Don´t you dare call me by my given name just to soothe me."

"I don´t..."

"I´m not your devoted Teyla."

The last comment was an epiphany. Just great! I can´t stop thinking about her. I fantasize almost every night and day about her and she believes... Gently, he took her by the shoulders and brought his face close to hers.

Elizabeth gasped in surprise. "What are you...?"

He kissed her tenderly and pulled back.

"Maj..."

Thoroughly, he kissed her again, without any pressure. She could have fought him off anytime. But she didn´t. Trembling, she gave in to him and returned the kiss with all her heart. I knew she was passionate. This color... Aroused, he deepened the kiss and she whimpered softly. Their tongues met and played a teasing game of gentle licks. Unbearable heat rose and filled every inch left between them with fire. John growled and broke the kiss shortly to catch his breath.

"I...we...," Elizabeth stammered.

"Exactly," he agreed, smugly, and swept her into his arms.

"John...we have to..."

Sealing her lips with more searing kisses, he headed for the bed. Still, Elizabeth wasn´t fighting him, and John knew this time he was perfectly right in what he was doing. His hands slipped under her top, finding her breasts uncovered and ready. "It seems I´m not the only one who walked into the night not expecting company. Or did you expect company?"

She scowled at him. "None of your..."

Smirking, he bent down to lick her nipples, devotedly. Her top was shoved off and slid to the ground.

Moaning, she stopped trying to speak and simply answered by having her way with his messy hair.

Overjoyed, he groaned and sucked harder on the rosy knobs. Quickly lost in this enchanting world of lips and skin and heat, his teasing hands found their way further down, pulling at her pants.

Elizabeth pushed him off. "Stop it!"

John did instantly - but he pouted.

"Don´t you dare and look at me like that, John Sheppard," she scolded, breathless.

With his hands laced behind his head, he leaned back into the red pillow. "How do I look?"

"Like a kid whose candy I took away."

He laughed. "Well, Elizabeth, if you want to put it that way."

"John, it can´t be. We can´t be. We have a lot of responsibilities and have to..."

"...suppress our needs and feelings, right?" he finished, clicking his tongue, irritated. "Well, nobody has to know except us."

"What are you saying?"

Closely, he observed her exposed breasts and licked his lips. Oh God, she´s beautiful. Don´t mess this up, John. Be clever. The bulge in his shorts got bigger and he put a hand over it.

Certainly, she noticed and blushed, covering her breasts with her arms.

Sweet Jesus. I never thought she could blush about anything. She´s always so...Focus! "I´m saying we can keep it our secret. Nobody has to know what we are doing at night - alone."

Nervously, she nibbled on her lip.

"We can enjoy ourselves; have as much fun as..."

"Fun!" she blurted out. "That´s what this is for you." She turned around to look for her top.

Firmly, he seized her by the wrists and pulled her down on him. "It´s not. Don´t twist around what I said." His hands slid down and grabbed her ass. "I want you. I have wanted you since we met for the first time."

"Liar," she whispered, but it was only a tease.

Feeling her soften, he flipped her onto her back, pinning her hands lightly. "Elizabeth, do you want me to beg?"

Resolutely, she shook her head. "No. I just...want you to promise me this won´t change anything between us."

"I can´t make such a promise," he murmured, " but I´ll try my best."

"Never mind," she sighed. "I want you too. I have wanted you since..."

"I know."

"What! You can´t possibly..." she snapped, bewildered.

He laughed and aimed for her lips. "Just teasing you. Are you sure about this?"

"Yes."

"I don´t want you to do anything you..."

"Kiss me. That´s an order, Major."

"Well, if you insist, I have no choice but to obey."

The morning came undesirably fast. Dead beat, John opened his eyes and groaned in pain. "Do you have to be this bright, sun?" He turned to Elizabeth and whispered into her ear: "Morning, Elizabeth. Sorry to wake you but I have to..."

"Please, Johnny," she replied sleepily, "not again...you have to leave now."

Grinning, he gifted her face with a dozen kisses.

Frowning, she opened her eyes. "What?"

"That´s pretty amazing; you calling me Johnny."

"I never..."

"Oh yes, you did. I´ll make you remember tonight." Lazily, he slipped out of bed.

"Wait a second; I never said you could come over tonight."

He opened the door and peeked into the hallway, carefully. It was empty. "Right. I´m leaving now. But mark my words, Elizabeth. I´ll be back tonight, no matter what you say."

She made a face at him and pulled the blanket over herself.

John laughed, content, and stepped outside. The door closed. Slowly, very slowly, he strolled down the hallway, yawning frequently. Hell! I´m tired. But it was definitely... Not exactly watching his path he bumped into McKay. Oh, fucking perfect.

"Where are you coming from this early," Rodney asked, perplexed.

"Apologizing."

"In your underwear?"

"Well...yes...I was literally dressed down." He winked at the gaping scientist.

"That´s..."

"I´m lucky I was allowed to walk away in my underwear."

"Major, this is outrageous!"

"Don´t worry. I can handle it. I´m military." Whistling cheerfully, he continued stumbling down the hallway, leaving Rodney McKay to figure this mystery out by himself. Sometimes an apology pays off big time. Isn´t it a wonderful, bright morning...oh, don´t look at the sun...bad idea, very bad idea.
